I like it if I’m honest. It doesn’t sound too westernised (see: Tinchy Strider feat Amelle – I will never leave you/ya/??? [not that I listen to that on a regular basis]) but local and foreign enough to sound fresh if you know what I mean.

“Looks like I got motivation to do some more of these though”. Does that mean more Japanese rap or more mixtapes in general?

yeah, looks like it got taken down for some reason, but I found another copy of it, so check it out while it’s still up. Jaywise, I haven’t even been keeping up on dude. But an album would make sense, since that’s been floating around for over a year.

Looks like I got motivation to do some more of these though, so I’ll try to do something else in the near future.

I mean, there’s plenty rappers who have called out the government or society – K Dub Shine, Rhymester, etc – but from what I know, nobody’s ever really named names – not on record, anyway. In that sense, this is sort of an interesting move.

I accidentally cut off a portion of my comment about the your blog itself. I gotta say, it’s pretty interesting and good to hear that people in Japan are political and that there is some kind of common feeling in the genre as a whole. I don’t know if you know, but I am also interested in Japan and Japanese culture too so it was quite informative to read what you wrote.

I can’t listen to the video Dex – I’m pretty sure it’s been removed. To go a little off track then; I don’t know if you’d heard but Jay Electronica actually features on the soundtrack of EA’s “Fight Night Round 4″. I was playing the game at a friend’s house and suddenly saw his name at the bottom of the screen. I think the song was “Exhibit A”. Does this mean Jay’s going more commercial and might be releasing something (an album) soon? Also, for anyone who likes New Jack/NU-Soul, Maxwell has released a new album called “BLACKsummernights”.

Do you have the entire lyrics? I can take a shot at translating it myself. It seems he’s really condensed the sentences so he could fit in as much of his ideas in as possible. Your translations seem decent though, I’ll have to pull out my Japanese grammar bible (as I’ve called it) to look at a few grey areas.

Alright I must say reading over this article I’m surprised and not really surprised the music in Japan not as broad on political view. U.S. rap and music in general has more of a freedom of speech approach. For a japan rapper to voice his opinion and call out a government on its flaws is a step up to the government itself. Other then that…yeah I enjoyed the production of the music and if I understood the the lyrics I’d like it more. Good work on this Dex. Loving the show over all.
