you know what it is. no, seriously. you do.
The next hip-hop podcast joint is coming soon, very soon, so be on the lookout for that. But right now, time for another amazing record review.
This time: Think Differently.
This is subtitled “Wu-Tang meets indie culture”, which as all of you know would normally bother me. However, I like Doom enough to not break a bottle on a desk and cut some yuppie’s face open for fucking gushing about how good he is. Still, though, this is not to say that Doom is perfect - that last Danger Doom thing was a fucking abortion. Jesus, that was boring. I liked Ghetto Pop Life, I liked everything else Doom did before that, but somebody, please keep those two from ever being in the same room ever again, because they have really bad chemistry and that record made me sleepy.

Speaking of chemistry.
Biochemical Reaction featuring RZA and MF Doom, which is a pretty good combination, on paper, at least. Let’s go.
Wow. The beat is really hot on this one. The drums are minimal in typical RZA steez, but unlike his old banger type shit, they are barely there. Instead you’re left with a flanged-up cinematic soul loop that is pretty much perfect. Then some sorta weird interlude with actual drums, then here comes Doom.
I guess it shouldn’t suprise me, but RZA definitely outshines MF Doom on this joint to me. I like RZA’s hook, which apparently has something to do avoiding Satan, or devils, or something, which I am all for. The emotion he puts into it is kinda funny and interesting at the same time, like he’s channeling ODB or something.
One weird thing. Babygrande, why did you censor the word “Satan”? That word is not FCC-illegal, but somehow you missed several instances of the word “shit” in some of the hottest tracks on the Lawless Element record, which is gonna leave several backpacker indie boys that work for college stations really sad. Since when is “Satan” a bad word? I’m a little concerned now.
Preservation featuring Aesop Rock and Del tha Funky Homosapien.
For the record, I would as a general rule much rather listen to Vanilla Ice than Aesop Rock. Del is good, though. Let’s have a listen.
Beat is aight. Boom-bap kinda thang with some claps, and piano riffs, and horn swells on the nonexistant hooks. It’s good, but nothing approaching the A-side.
Aesop comes across okay. Kinda lackluster, but whatever. I wish he would shut up and let Del talk again.
Okay, here he is. And there he goes. Fuck, that was a short song. Whatever, it’s probably better that way. This song didn’t do anything for me.
This release is set to hit streets on 18th October, which is pretty fucking soon, like tomorrow or some shit. So if you like backpacker shit and/or RZA, you should probably get it. I would tell you that it’s available via iTunes, but Apple is currently fronting on your boy so I’m not about to send them any money.
ACCEPTED.
PS: Peace to Trilogy and Babygrande for making sure this release and the Paris to Purple City joint both landed on my doorstep all safe and sound.
