MIXTAPE 133 – BOUNCE TAPE THE FOURTH

So this is sort of cheating, decease since this was actually recorded in like mid March, and just sort of sat on my hard drive, but whatever – as long as it keeps me on a weekly schedule it counts, right? Right?

Bounce Tape 4. If you’re new to the series, you can get yourself caught up by checking the bounce tape file.

Note – this tape (like the others) is not necessarily “good”, and has a lot of “mistakes” like – overdrawn or nonexistent transitions, me playing things 30 BPM too fast because I think it sounds better that way, and well, Super Mario sound effects. If you’re okay with that, let’s get into it…

Tracklist

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg – The Next Episode (Jay Robinson Clubstep Mix). This kind of scared me the first time I heard it. @jayrobinson

Simian Mobile Disco – Cruel Intentions (feat. Beth Ditto) (Joker Remix). This is such a cute song, really, when you think about it. “Call me down, we’ll hang out, I’m down for whatever.” Like riding bikes or getting ice cream or something. That said, though, I’m pretty sure I’ve left messages like this on various females’ voicemails over the years, and it’s never worked out yet, so I can’t really recommend using it.

Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember (Caspa Remix). Yes, like I said, this mix is old. But seriously, this song does not get old. The bass just really smashes like that. Have you seen this video that the mad decent kids put out? It also smashes. The clip, incidentally, is from Say Anything, which I watched on the strength of this clip, and I can also recommend, as it is a really fine specimen of mid-80s white cinema, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Gucci Mane – Dope Boys (Bird Peterson Remix). Seriously, listening to this now this song is so juvenile. I know MF Doom refers to himself in third person all the time, but somehow when Gucci does it he sounds like a first grader. Oh, the remix also samples BT – “Godspeed”, which is pretty funny. @gucci1017

Rapture – Don’t Go Do It (Million $ Mano Remix). Yeah, this is 2007 status, but nobody cares because this song just goes that hard. @djmano

Rye Rye – Bang feat. M.I.A. (DJ Sega’s Philly Club Remix). Speaking of M.I.A., has anyone really listened to that new record? I’ve only heard pieces, but I was liking what I was hearing. @tharealryerye

Prodigy – No Good. I don’t think people listen to enough Prodigy. @the_prodigy

Martyn – Hear Me. I think we need more organs, in general. @martyn3024

The Hood Internet – Blazin Kryptonite (Big Boi feat. Purple Ribbon All-Stars vs Ghislain Poirier). Yeah, I know, Hood Internet. But they absolutely got this one right. @hoodinternet

Lemon Jelly – ’75 Aka Stay With You. I played this a little fast, so if you want the real experience, I’d recommend locating a normal copy. It’s a pretty good track. www.lemonjelly.ky

Sabotage Party – Cold Night In Paradise. I can’t say I actually understand what’s going on here, but this is a pretty great song. @sabotage1893

okay yeah so that’s this week – see you next time.

Because real talk, buy viagra Santa Claus does give more presents to rich kids than poor kids. I’ll be spending my giftmas day back in the hood delivering toys and food. If you can do something to bring people up this season, please do so.

In the meantime, feel free to bump this in the ride.

Tracklist

[Intro beat] Meanest Man Contest – Don’t Die on Christmas. I used to play a lot of MMC on the radio when I first started out. I’m not sure who would win a Meanest Man Contest. myspace.com/meanestmancontest

Big Gen and Snipe – This Christmas ft Birmingham J and Mr Mal. This is pretty much the first I’ve heard of dudes. The song is marginally cheesy (I mean, it’s a Christmas song), but it brings to mind the fact that there’s really a very fine line between songs about giving people gifts and songs about giving people drugs. I dig this cut though. myspace.com/biggensnipe

69 Boyz – What You Want For Christmas. What can I possibly even add to this song? Make sure your bass is turned up.

(Digilude): Hally – Xmas Songs Plastic Sputnik Arcade Punk Remix (snippet). And in the suburbs, Mummy and Daddy wake up Brad Jr. What will little Brad Jr. get this year? A lump of coal? A hard-learned lesson in the gritty reality of living in the streets? Or maybe that new nintendo…8bitpeoples for the full cut.

Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Bad Azz, Daz and Tray Dee – Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto. You might not expect this given the list of artists in the credits, but this may well be the most positive song in this episode.

Master Slash Slave – All I Want for Xmas (Is To Get The Band Back Together) (snippet). Apparently this song was written in like 5 takes and 53 minutes of bizarre indiekid desperation. You should visit the myspace just to look at the ridiculous pictures. If Postal Service did more drugs and had cheaper equipment, maybe they could sound as good as these kids. myspace.com/master1slave.

Treacherous Three – Xmas Rap. And to think that this was technically pre-crack era. Jesus. Other songs on here take occasional jabs at the government and media, but this one is actually pretty bold. And yes, Kool Moe Dee was part of this group.

AKIM & The Teddy Vann Production Company – Santa Claus is a Black Man. I don’t know about you guys, but in my house, Santa Claus was definitely a Black man. This joint really should be mandatory in every household.

Every household. Yours too.

MIXTAPE 64 – THE EMO RAP EPISODE

And no, pilule before you close the window in horror, adiposity Atmosphere does not make an appearance in this episode. This ain’t that kind of party, buy ladies and gentlemen. If you want to know what this show is about, you sort of have to listen.

Sorry in advance for making fun of British people.

Tracklist time!

Termanology – 50 Bodies (prod. Marley Marl). Who needs a hook? Not him. I like. Note the Sean Bell reference.myspace.com/therealtermanology

Skillz – Don’t Act Like You Don’t Know feat Freeway – I’m not sure why it took me so long to get these two on the show, but here they are. myspace.com/yourghostwriter.

Che Grand – Che Grand Was Bored (prod. Suburb). Yeah, that’s the track name I was given. That’s how exclusive we get on this hip-hop podcast – bootleg one-verse joints recorded on computer microphones. Still, it’s been a long-ass time since we’ve heard from anybody in the Loud Minority camp, hint hint. loudminoritymusic.com

Trump – Da Souf. Off the Hate It or Get It mixtape. If you don’t know about this dude already, you haven’t been listening to the show. Go do your homework. myspace.com/shamanwork

Mac Dre - Not My Job. This was my jam for like 3 weeks out in China, for whatever reason. I never really got up on half the shit that was (and still is) happening in the Bay, but the small collection of the late Mac Dre that I do have is pretty hot. That line about the grocery shopping is funny as hell. myspace.com/macdre

Devin the Dude – What A Job feat Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000. That corn on the cob thing was a little odd, but then again, this is Andre we’re talking about. The album comes out on the 20th, which is today, which means that maybe you could get it or something. myspace.com/devinthedude

And there we have it. The outro joint was an Emilio Rojas beat, and the intro was by Philip Glass off the Mishima soundtrack.

You know the drill: comment, email, subscribe.
