Sorry that’s the best I could do with 5 minutes. That in the back is supposed to be a broken sprinkler, leaking out all of Kanye’s songs.

Thank you to each and every one of you that sent me frantic IMs, called me, texted me, etc. to break this important news. I truly appreciate it.

Hands up if you didn’t see this coming, seriously. I’m a little sad to take part in this Curtis v Graduation thing, but this will certainly make things a bit more interesting for the Sept 11th Showdown.

I am really busy playing Earthbound right now, but if I can find some spare time in the midst of being a little Japanese kid with a yellow backpack and hitting snakes with a bat, I might tell you whether or not it is worth buying.

As I may have mentioned to some of you, however, I think the true competition here is between Soulja Boy and 50 Cent. I would love to see the originator of the Crank Dat Movement (CDM) have a better first week than 50.

Remember, kids. Every time you crank dat soulja boy, an angel gets its wings.

Before you call Focus on the Family on me … Continue reading →

MIXTAPE 41 – RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Well, I had to do it. Today’s show contains more than a few joints that a lot of people out there would consider blasphemous. That’s fine. Before you call Focus on the Family on me though, (happened once before), think for a second about shit like the crack epidemic, about Katrina, about Sudan, and then tell me that there’s no good reason that people should feel like they’ve been shut out. Let’s move.

Mobb Deep feat 50 Cent – Pearly Gates. Exile on the beats here. This is the joint that was censored by Interscope – as in you can’t even get this version that you’re about to hear here in stores. I mean, you’ve got Prodigy saying shit like that he’s going to “see [Jesus] when he sees him” or that he’s gonna beat Jesus up “like the movie” (I’m assuming he’s talking about The Passion of the Christ). But of course, I don’t know what happened in the movie because I didn’t see it, because of the White Jesus factor.

Also, why are people whining about Fiddy singing on hooks? I think he sings good hooks. Please leave Fiddy alone. Dude wants to sing, let him sing. He’s had a rough life. Poor guy.

Thanks to Jon at SIC for getting me this one. www.soundincolor.com

Sin Sizzerb – If God Close the Gate. Sin once again brings some fairly complex lyricism. Not complex like Ghostface, say, but more like complex like when you were in English class and your teacher would make you interpret poetry and shit. A lot of Sin’s more recent shit seems to have a lot of symbolism going on, which I can hardly argue with. Dude comes off as a pretty well-read individual, aside from having a unique-ass flow. Anyone interested in hearing a Sin Sizzerb interview up here? Hit up the comments and let me know. sizzerb.com.

L Jamar – Here Comes the Sun. I like the sample, I like his flow, but this somehow sounds almost too cheerful. I mean, it’s a great song, but I mean, a happy rapper? Who the fuck wants to hear a happy rapper?

Anyway, this song is pretty much loaded with 5% wordplay and ideas. Like I mentioned in the show, on the off chance that you didn’t catch that terrible-ass issue of the Source where they did a “history of the Nation of Gods and Earths” feature, you pretty much have to educate yourself on this shit if you want to continue listening to rap. I really don’t mean to insult anyone out there with this knowledge, but I know there are a lot of “oh man I found this great hippity-hop show on the interweb and its run by this guy who almost sounds white” people out there, and I’m really just looking out for you. I tell you because I care.

Sorry, back to the track. Track is hot, the album comes out soon, and from what I’ve seen of it so far, I recommend it. Maybe we can mash out an interview with L as well. www.5percent.org.

Akir - Urban Sprawl. Yes, this instrumental has been getting around a little bit – I think that just speaks to Exile’s talent. You’ve heard Akir here before, and you know his tendency to drop the political science on you. I’ll leave this one alone here, because you already know that it’s quality. www.myspace.com/akir.

Oh – sidebar - the remark I made in the show at the end about Akir having some supposed “beef” with JWs didn’t really come out right – so ignore it. Dude is obviously not saying anything of the sort, as you’ll notice if you listen closely. My bad. So no offense to any Jehovah’s Witness out there, especially not my Aunt Lucille.

John Robinson – Hit Me Ruff Draft. Come on, it’s John Robinson. This one comes off of The Leak Edition Vol 1, which incidentally features a lot more hot material. Be on the lookout for more of this shit coming soon. Shouts to JR for linking me up with this one. shamanwork.com.

Cheyeah, that’s it for this week. Holler at me with any feedback in the comments section, or whatever. Look out for even more hot shit coming your way like quick snap. Peace.

MIXTAPE EPISODE 30

This show concept for this week’s rap podcast basically came up when Ike Eyes sent me a copy of the Propane Piff mixtape. Trust me, when you hear Ag shouting over the top of some old crack era S.O.S. band shit, you know you’re in for an experience. If you’re interested in scoring your own free copy, read the full post for details. Not only that, though, but there’s a freestyle from my man Respect up in here, as well as an old Smoke and Numbers joint that y’all prolly ain’t heard, either. Start the track and follow along…

Agallah - Whoop Ya Head f/ 50 Cent. Yes, the almighty Fiddy shows up on this joint, which makes sense if you know your history. Don’t hate. If anyone somehow forgot that despite the Top 40 shit, 50 actually has bars, you’re about to get reminded.

Agallah - So High (prod. Sid Roams). Instant fucking classic right here. I don’t know much about this Roams cat but this is a dope cut. Check this one out.

Agallah - Thanks to Me feat Camron, Sin Sizzerb. More of that piano-type shit. I’m not sure why it is that the less angry your production is, the more gangster your shit sounds, but this is an example of that phenomenon. Cam definitely has a presence in his section, and Ag rips his up.

Agallah - Don Bishop f/ Jay Z (prod Agallah). Hey, if Swizz can do it, so can he. Okay, so it’s only Jay on the hook, but the old blaxploitation movie soundtrack feel is hot, as is the flow. Again, there’s about 10 other joints I could have put on here, but you’re gonna have to get your own copy to hear them.

The mixtape can be purchased here.

Numbers (of Smoke & Numbers) – Smile. We had a solo joint from Smoke a while back, so we gotta give Numbers his chance to shine on this one. I’ve had the Color of Money mixtape for a minute now and I’d almost forgotten that I meant to drop this one on y’all. You can pick up their latest mixtape (that I know of) at mixunit.

Respect - Yesturday (freestyle) with Paradox and Dy-verze. Nice freestyle from my man Respect (the God). This is another one I’ve been meaning to drop for a while now. Respect – you got any more joints you wanna shoot to me, holler… Check him out at myspace.com/respectthagod.

So that’s it for Episode 30. I know a lot of y’all are trying to figure out how to pick up your own copy, so here’s the rundown in bullet points because I know a lot of you are slow.

How to get a free copy of Propane Piff mailed to you

Details/ Non-Small Print:

1. I have a limited (!!) number of mixtapes to give out.
2. I am sending them for free. I am paying for postage.
3. I am making the choice as to who gets a mixtape and who doesn’t. Everyone has an equal chance, unless I arbitrarily decide that I don’t like you, then you don’t have any chance at all.
4. I’m not necessarily opposed to mailing outside the U.S., but if you’re outside the lower 48, it might be a bit tougher for you.

You have a few options as for entering:

1. Call the mixtape hotline: (310) 928 MTSN, and leave a message telling me why you want a copy. Leave your number or email, and I’ll contact you if I chose you and get your mailing address then.
2. Email me (see my email address in the contact info section) and do the same.

Ways to improve your chances:

1. If you’re leaving a message, make it interesting. Freestyle, do something non-boring because I’ll delete your shit like I deleted those 30 fake emails from that one promoter pretending to be 30 different fans of some terrible rapper. I see you, son, and your shit don’t work. So stop.

2. Promote the show. This doesn’t mean spamming people, this means post up on a message board somewhere where people would be interested in the show, tell your friends, etc. If you want to shoot me a link where you’ve linked up the show, that might be a good thing for you to do. I’m just saying.

There, that’s what it is. I’m tired, so that’s it for today. Oh yeah – did you hear me mention that there’s a contest next week for producers – one that might get you on wax? I did, and there is. Check us out next week.

MIXTAPE 26 – LONGSHOT INTERVIEW

Episode 25! It’s been a while. I’m glad I have you all in my life.

This episode features MC Longshot, who has been previously featured in mixtape show episode 21. For those of y’all that have been sleeping, dude is from Chicago, and definitely reps his city something fierce.

The reason I hit up Shot for the interview is twofold: First, he’s been building up a lot of buzz in his hometown, and I keep hearing his name come up. Second, I was pretty impressed with his newest release, Civil War Pt. 2, which is “an album…a movie, a mixtape…a movement, man!” ( (c) Longshot 2006).

Seriously though, it’s damn near the hottest thing that has graced my Volvo’s CD deck in a few months, and beats the fuck out of whatever wack shit you you were listening to in 2005. 31 tracks, over 40 artists, and basically a lot of fucking talent, with Longshot to tie it all together.

In this interview, Longshot breaks down his name, his past, the inspiration behind his poetry (he released a book of poetry before he ever released any albums), the politics of his city, and of course, the Civil War pt. 2 mixtape itself. He also gives us an update on the upcoming Coppershot album (which Chess is mastering as you read), which sounds pretty fucking hot (ETA: March/April).

If you’ve heard the record, you know that Longshot gets on some deep type shit from time to time, and that also comes out in the interview. We also talk about the messages behind a lot of his joints, and suffice to say that Shot has a lot of good things to say.

Basically, this is a good interview. Listen to it.

Respect goes to Longshot and Chester Copperpot at EV Productions.

What’s hood, internet? Well, as if you couldn’t guess by the big fucking L , this is volume 2 of the Grand Larceny Radio Show, right here on the most known unknown hip-hop podcast ever, the mixtape show.

[DOWNLOAD the hi-quality mp3s here: part 1 || part 2 ]

For the uninitiated, the mixtape show has a partnership with Larceny Entertainment that lets yall get in on this Grand Larceny Radio show shit. TK and Breezy pretty much got the movement that is the New West sewed up, and I personally got the internet goin nuts. So when you put that together with the toughest fucking rap podcast this side of New Zealand, you get what you’re about to listen to. Here’s the tracklist for you suckers:

Young Hootie and J Boy – OT Work
El Dorado Red – Murdered
Coolwadda – La, La
AB feat. 50 Cent – Infrared
Flatlinerz – Watts Stomp
Mr Town – The Town (Ay)
Balance and Keak da Sneak – What Up
Big Wy and Young Breezy – I want In
Young Hootie and TJ Santana – Easy Come
Black TK – 86 Crack(It’s Back)
XL Middleton – Zoom Zoom

So if you’re up on your West Coast LA/Bay type shit, you should recognize at least a good majority of the names in here. AB comes through with some shit and brings the relatively unknown 50 Cent with him on the hook, Mr. Town comes back with some more shit, Breez drops the first bars with Wy – I’d heard about this but hadn’t heard it yet. El Dorado is up in there, and I just heard (as will you when you download the joint) that he’s making moves with Universal…congratulations on that El Dog – we’ll link up for that damn interview at some point. Hootie’s joint with TJ Santana is probably the most radio-unfriendly song I’ve heard him on, but that’s what the internet is for. And then TK comes at us with some shit that you really probably aren’t equipped to understand, and XL!! what’s up mang!

And of course, Balance and Keak da Sneak, Coolwadda, Flatlinerz, shit, why are you still reading? If you’re trying to stay up on this West Coast street shit, you really need to go download this thing.

I’ve included the high fidelity versions here as downloads. You can listen to the version above in the browser all day long, but if you want a more high quality file, download these and use them in your mp3 player and whatnot.

And if this West Coast gangster shit ain’t your personal styrofoam cup of sizzurp, check out the archives.

Oh yeah, and for the latecomers you can grab volume 1 of GLR right here : (volume 1 part 1 and part 2
