John Robinson – Indy 102. Hopefully this is not a new name to you. Met up with JR back over summer at some thing or other, and he recently got at me with a couple of packages – Beatology vols 1 and 2, and his The Leak Edition, Vol.1. This joint right here though should help you get your business game up, which is important since there are way too many people out there trying to take you for your shit. Rebels Advocate – Bite. You’ve heard them here before, now hear them again. This is from that same EP that caught me the first time. Basically it’s a 5-minute joint over damn near every classic hip-hop joint you can think of – like 15-30 second snippets of each joint. Pretty crazy hearing dude spit over drastically different beats and keeping it cohesive. All you producers, this is the song that you’ll be remixing for the grand prize of vinyl pressing and the iPod nano – so listen up, and check the end for details.

Specifics – Take me back. I’m sure there’s some life lesson to be learned here. Not sure what it is, but it’s probably there. Specifics have been supporters of the show since mad early on. MIXTAPE EPISODE 30

This show concept for this week’s rap podcast basically came up when Ike Eyes sent me a copy of the Propane Piff mixtape. Trust me, disorder when you hear Ag shouting over the top of some old crack era S.O.S. band shit, you know you’re in for an experience. Not only that, though, but there’s a freestyle from my man Respect up in here, as well as an old Smoke and Numbers joint that y’all prolly ain’t heard, either. Start the track and follow along…

Agallah - Whoop Ya Head f/ 50 Cent. Yes, the almighty Fiddy shows up on this joint, which makes sense if you know your history. Don’t hate. If anyone somehow forgot that despite the Top 40 shit, 50 actually has bars, you’re about to get reminded.

Agallah - So High (prod. Sid Roams). Instant fucking classic right here. I don’t know much about this Roams cat but this is a dope cut. Check this one out.

Agallah - Thanks to Me feat Camron, Sin Sizzerb. More of that piano-type shit. I’m not sure why it is that the less angry your production is, the more gangster your shit sounds, but this is an example of that phenomenon. Cam definitely has a presence in his section, and Ag rips his up.

Agallah - Don Bishop f/ Jay Z (prod Agallah). Hey, if Swizz can do it, so can he. Okay, so it’s only Jay on the hook, but the old blaxploitation movie soundtrack feel is hot, as is the flow. Again, there’s about 10 other joints I could have put on here, but you’re gonna have to get your own copy to hear them.

Numbers (of Smoke & Numbers) – Smile. We had a solo joint from Smoke a while back, so we gotta give Numbers his chance to shine on this one. I’ve had the Color of Money mixtape for a minute now and I’d almost forgotten that I meant to drop this one on y’all. You can pick up their latest mixtape (that I know of) at mixunit.

3. I am making the choice as to who gets a mixtape and who doesn’t. Everyone has an equal chance, unless I arbitrarily decide that I don’t like you, then you don’t have any chance at all.
4. I’m not necessarily opposed to mailing outside the U.S., but if you’re outside the lower 48, it might be a bit tougher for you.

You have a few options as for entering:

Ways to improve your chances:

1. If you’re leaving a message, make it interesting. Freestyle, do something non-boring because I’ll delete your shit like I deleted those 30 fake emails from that one promoter pretending to be 30 different fans of some terrible rapper. I see you, son, and your shit don’t work. So stop.

2. Promote the show. This doesn’t mean spamming people, this means post up on a message board somewhere where people would be interested in the show, tell your friends, etc. If you want to shoot me a link where you’ve linked up the show, that might be a good thing for you to do. I’m just saying.

MIXTAPE EPISODE 29

Episode 29 this time of the livest hip-hop podcast ever, page fuck them other joints, sick cause they really just aren’t fucking with the Mixtape Show.

Case in point – who else brings you shit from the UK AND the dirty dirty in one episode? You can count the number of sites on my middle finger, symptoms suckers, cause there’s only one. All kidding aside, I’ve got some pretty out-there and interesting shit for y’all this week. We’re gonna start off with some more straight-ahead hip-hop from across the pond, then jump into some grime, then hit you over the head with some of that suvvin rap shit. Assaviour and Jehst - Money in the Bank (orig. version). This episode is gonna get crazy, so I thought I’d start y’all off with something that you could handle. Check the production and the hook on this one…instant classic. lowliferecords.co.uk.

Jehst - City of Industry. From the description on the record itself: “One of the first tracks Jehst recorded for Low Life, this perfectly illustrates how he creates atmosphere with music and paints pictures with his words”. Plan B – Sick 2 Def. I hope to god I don’t lose y’all on this joint. This is the first of two joints you’re gonna hear on this show from the long-awaited Run The Road Pt. 2 compilation. This is probably my favorite joint on the compilation, which is weird because: 1: there are no drums or grimy basslines, meaning it’s not really even (?) grime. And 2: I almost never listen to the song, because it’s fucking difficult to listen to. Trust me – wait until the third verse. If you can sit through that shit without your spine tingling due to the absolutely fucking vivid shit that Plan B is spitting, then you need to go back to Kelly Clarkson.

Kano - Mic Check Remix f/ Demon & Ghetto. Switched it up on you. This is another joint from the Run The Road 2 compilation, but is definitely more in line with what your idea of grime is. And if you don’t even know what grime is yet, then this is probably a pretty good introduction, but you need to start paying attention. If y’all want more of this, I’ll see what I can do. Trillville - Man Up. Oh, come on, haven’t you been reading Fader? Grime + Dirty South shit = Instant win. Seriously, though, I’ve been on that shit since well before whatever trendy-ass blog/magazine/indy rag you’ve been reading/copying/talking about at Cinespace. 4-Ize – Premium Unleaded f/ Homebwoi and Lil Atlanta. Been sitting on this one for months. More 4-Ize (you’ve heard him here before), and a bit more LA in case you didn’t catch him on the last joint. Really, though, Homebwoi kinda kills it for me in his last few bars during his verse. Ain’t heard of him before this, but I’m gonna check for him in the future, buhleeeeeedat! My favorite track off of the Premium Unleaded mixtape.
