MIXTAPE 78 – BOUNCE TAPE 3

Bounce Tape 3, pill ladies and gentlemen. The form continues to evolve. This episode takes you from reggae to hyphy to suburb rap to ragga-punk to crunk to damn son just listen.

And again, resuscitator there’s only about a week left to nominate the Mixtape Show for the best music podcast in the 2007 Podcast Awards. Nominating, and encouraging others to nominate, will help make sure that we can keep bringing you this quality, informative (okay so soulja boy is not that informative but still) material.

How To Nominate This Podcast

Step 1: Click here: Vote for the Mixtape Show
Step 2: Scroll down and fill out the Podsafe Music box (third box from the bottom on the left).
 Podcast Name: The Mixtape Show
 Podcast URL: http://mixtapeshow.net
Step 3: Fill in your name, email (they won’t spam you – it’s just to make sure we don’t cheat) and any comments.
Step 4. Hit “submit”.
Step 5. Get on myspace/facebook and force others to do the same!

Okay, enough plugging. On with the show:

Tracklist

Collie Buddz – Come Around (Benja Styles remix). Infinitely tougher than the original. Pretty much all Philly DJ Benja Styles does is make these reggae remixes of these joints, often weeks before the general populace has even heard the damn things. You’ve heard him here before. myspace.com/benjastyles

Turf Talk – Broke Niggas (produced by Droop-E). Pilly at Nation of Thizzlam said it best – Turf Talk is one of the few people out there who can whisper an entire track without sounding really creepy (cf. Ying Yang Twins). myspace.com/turftalk

Cool Kids – Gold And A Pager. This is the joint right now. You are excused for not knowing about this hipster-rap duo, but you shall henceforth not be excused…from..uh…not knowing about them. Kids are already blowing up – it’s just a matter of time now. Complete cosign on this cut. Shout outs to Nelson for linking me up with the track. myspace.com/gocoolkids.

Some faceless Brazilian girl – Baile Funk 3. This was bootlegged off of the M.I.A. Piracy Funds Terrorism mixtape, again. I actually had another track I wanted to play that utilizes this same riddim, but I couldn’t find it and well you know how it goes. Only the people who actually speak Portuguese would notice anyway, and if you don’t – just assume they’re talking about something unbelievably nasty.
Team Knoc – Fruity Pebble Punk Rock. The chopped violin samples just matched too well here. I really wanted to give you the whole intro, but I couldn’t really justify doing it on this tape. Trust me – you need to track this cut down just to hear the intro. “Some people go dumb, but I go smart, because I’m in college”. Is there an official dance for this? myspace.com/teamknock.

M.I.A – Come Around Remix. At least, that’s what it’s called on her blog. It seems like it should be called “Come Down“, but M.I.A’s writing is basically incoherent. Either way, good track. myspace.com/mia.

Soulja Boy – Crank Dat Soulja Boy (Superman). Seriously, if you can’t appreciate how cool this song is, get off of my fucking website. You heard Soulja Boy in the last bounce tape, and really there’s just something amazing about the fact that this kid really isn’t a great rapper or producer, but he’s just got a knack for making catchy songs and dances that don’t really make any sense (watch me crank that robocop? is that a dance? yes it is). In other news, there is a dance called the Spongebob. myspace.com/souljaboy.

Meko, Dangerous Rob, Lix, Montana, Chaotic, and J-Tripz – Ballin (Atlanta Mix prod by Don Vito) (Mixtape Show ADHD edit). Shouts to Lix and Eddie from F-Pac records for this cut. I had to chop a couple verses out of this one. Favorite 16 on this track – the last 16 (J-Tripz?). Trust me. myspace.com/fpackokujin.

Ding Dong - Go Away (We Don’t Like You!). This song is ridiculous. Punk rock + dancehall + people telling somebody to go away = Recipe for awesome. Ripped from M.I.A.’s blog. myspace.com/dingdong.

So there’s this week’s show. How are you all this week?

Make sure to join the facebook group if you haven’t already – a lot of good music is being tossed around in there. Join the party.

MIXTAPE 62 – RETURN OF THE BOUNCE TAPE

Due to popular demand, sale I’ve resurrected the Bounce Tape format for another edition. That means that everybody’s favorite spastic, symptoms button-mashing, hey-guys-watch-me-play-with-the-eq-for-no-reason style is back.

This time, you’re in for some sped-up crunk, electro, hyphy, funk, and grime, not necessarily in that order. I’d write more but keep it 100 it’s fucking 3 AM and it is sleepytime soon.

And remember, playing the show from the player above will get you a lower-fidelity file (but shorter loadtime), but if you subscribe to this hip-hop podcast(free), you’ll get the high quality file.

Check the playlist below:

Zongamin – Bongo Song (Jackos Remix). While the promo I got did list Vice on the sleeve, I guess this is release is more accurately an Ed Banger jumpoff. So Ed Banger, don’t sue me. Nice release, by the way. myspace.com/edbangerrecords.
Bun B - Get Throwed (Instrumental). myspace.com/bunbofugk
Dizzee Rascal - Stand Up Tall (Acapella) dizzeerascal.co.uk
Soulja Boy – I got me some Bathing Apes. I’m not totally certain why I liked this song so much – joint just got stuck in my head. This kid is still in high school, and the production values kinda reflect that, but I’m not going to front, the hook is cute. myspace.com/souljaboytellem.
Trump – The Misters. Dude sounds absolutely nothing like anyone else on Shaman Work’s roster that I know of, but this cut ain’t bad. myspace.com/shamanwork
DJ Gyngyvytus – Snaps Out. I’m about 90% certain dude made this on a tracker. From what I can tell, this is a remix of “Knives Out”, but I never really fucked with Radiohead like that. Feel free to verify/refute this.
Trick Daddy – Tuck Ya Ice. I forget who he took the bar on the hook from. thug.com.
Keak Da Sneak – Get Hyphy 07. This is such a blatant rip of “Wait” that it’s not even funny. The song’s cute though. myspace.com/keakdasneak.
Dogg Pound featuring Snoop Dogg – Vibe With a Pimp. www.dpgrecordz.com.
Federation – She Goes. It’s the hook that does it for me on this one. Federation is just on some wild shit recently. Remember “Stunna Glasses?” www.myspace.com/thefederation.
Breakwater – Release The Beast (sampled by Daft Punk for Robot Rock) – shouts to Palmsout for the Daft Punk post I stole this track from.
Team Shadetek – Brooklyn Anthem feat 77Klash and JahDan. You all have to see the video for this. It’s fucking bananas. Shouts to Alex. sound-ink.com.

Hopefully you’re all still with me on this one. Drop comments, let me know what you felt about this one. As always, spread it around, etc.

MIXTAPE 46 – THE BOUNCE TAPE

Hey, no rx assholes. Remember Katrina? Apparently nobody in the news seems to.

If you like golden-age-crusty-breakbeat-conscious-hip-hop-head type shit, visit this then please don’t listen to this episode. It is not for you.

If you like shit played 30 BPM faster than it’s supposed to be played, if you like London, if you like bounce, if you like snap, if you like dirty and inexpert mixes, and most of all, if you like cocaine, then this episode is for you.

Here’s a briefly annotated tracklist.

Juvenile – Powder Bag*. Yep. Bounce music. This is less brick-rap ala Rick Ross and more coke-rap.

Durtville – Durtbike. I’m trying to imagine the dance that goes with this, since you know that every song that comes out nowadays has a dance. Beat is hot though. Try it normal speed at myspace.com/durtville

Lady Sovereign – Random (Menta Mix). This is the best track on the record, mainly because Riko is rapping on the phone, from prison. This song wins.
*T.I. – What You Know instrumental*

M.I.A. – Galang (Diplo Mix). The Piracy Funds Terrorism Mixtape pretty much >’d anything on Arular. But then again, I like Diplo. miauk.com.
*E-40 – Tell Me When To Go instrumental*

About The Money aka ATM - Get Jiggy. I actually found this one on the recommendation of Black TK a while back. I’ll leave the comments on the track title alone, but you really can’t front on this beat. Try listening to the real version if you don’t like mine. myspace.com/atlatm.
*Rick Ross – Hustlin instrumental*

2 Blakk – Second Line Jump. More bounce to close this shit out. I also have to shout out noz from cocaineblunts for (unknowingly) providing two tracks and a lot of the inspiration for this episode. Even if you don’t like shit-talking about rappers or are illiterate, you should go to his site and look at the pretty pictures.

***

This week’s episode was actually mixed live, by me, at some weird house party a week or so ago that I have absolutely no recollection of. That, combined with the broken laptops I was using to do this, should explain the amazing quality of the mix. That said, it’s sort of fun as it applies my personal philosophy on music: Faster = Better. Consider this one a bonus episode.
