MIXTAPE 63 – BEATJACKS AND REMIXES

So I talked a lot in this episode. Hopefully nobody minds. Here’s a few notes before we begin:

[2] And yes, the Mixtape Show was listed in Q Magazine‘s (UK) Best 100 Places To Get Free Music Online. #1 in the podcast section. They said that I was “lively”.

[3] I do think that the Beastie Boys made some nice songs, especially productionwise. I wouldn’t call myself a big fan, but they did their thing in their day. Plus, they were the featured group on during the official Mixtape Show Caucasian Appreciation Show. And around here, that counts for a lot.

DJ Lt Dan – Justify My Thug feat Jay-Z (b/w G Thang). I can’t remember who first remixed Jay’s Black Album, but this cat is definitely one of the earlier and more memorable ones. That acapella release also spawned the Grey Album, which in turn tipped the white liberal media off to this whole “remixing” and “hippity-hop” thing, at which point it started to get sort of lame. myspace.com/ltdanmixtapes.

Paul Dateh – Violin Demo. I’m not giving out the whole thing, but the last half of this was too good not to share. Paul and I connected some time ago, and he mentioned that he got down on the violin. Dude ain’t kidding. As much as some of you like to hate on Timbo (did anyone see that Scott Storch diss video? wow), the second half of this is pretty ridiculous. Paul, you have any more of this? Also, my friend walked into the studio when I was recording this and he said he thought I was watching a Hong Kong soap opera because of those last few licks. MIXTAPE EPISODE 32

Hectic as fuck here, unhealthy as usual. Since we were on that education tip last week, pharm I figured we’d continue the domination of the hip-hop podcast world this week with some more of the same business. Focus this week: politricks and other “conscious”-type shit. I actually don’t really like the label “conscious”, sick since it seems like we’re patting MCs on the back for being sentient beings. Fred Knuxx – Dear Iraq. This came in literally like four hours ago, so maybe it’s a good thing this week’s episode was delayed. Familiar sample? Yeah. My man B. Sayre’s been shooting me basically nothing but quality material for the past month or so, about time we got one of his people on. Knuxx is new to me, but definitely is on the right track with this one.

Sin Sizzerb – Black Helicopters (Kill Like America 2). Sin is kinda new to me, but his latest mixtape made him the Official Favorite Mixtape Show Rapper of the moment. I’m going to lay off the praise and state simply that this song is my favorite one on this entire episode, which given the undeniable quality of everything I’m bringing to the table this week, should say a lot. Sin himself is doing some real interesting things – really all them boys out there have a good movement going. Promise – Outside. Yet another joint out of the Mumbles Hip-Hop camp. That compilation CD they sent me is really full of fucking classics, but if you want the full dig on that you’re probably just going to have to cop that shit yourself. 9th Wonder and Buckshot – Slippin.Hey, look! It’s ol’ One-Drum. Just kidding. 9th is probably the best thing to happen to fruityloops users everywhere, showing us that we, too, can stop making cheesy Eurodance tracks and produce great hip-hop, you know, assuming that we have talent and shit. Which both of these artists do. Shouts go to Noha for shooting a big pack of Duck Down shit to me. Look for more of the same in the near future. duckdown.com

Jus Allah and GZA – Pool of Blood. Oh, come on. This is obviously on some next level shit. And it’s GZA, whose lyrics, as everyone knows, generally take about 3 months of careful study to properly decipher. MIXTAPE SHOW EPISODE 27 – Bling Interview

Switched it up on you. If you listen to nothing else this week, for sale listen to this show. This show isn’t full of bangers and straight up heat, it’s full of fucking science. My man Kareem Edouard is working on a documentary (available for free online at wghfilms.com) right now that talks about the massive amount of people in Africa dying because of the diamond industry’s stranglehold on the economy and political situation in various African nations – Sierra Leone isn’t the only one.

We’re talking, for example, tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children – our brothers and sisters – being dismembered or murdered within the space of a few days. Listen through about three minutes of this conversation – you’ll see what I’m talking about.

What does this have to do with you? Well, if you’ve watched a rap video in the past 7 years, you’ve probably seen someone that is (probably unbeknownst to them) helping to fuel the conflict diamond trade. If you’ve already seen the documentary, this should provide some more information and background on what the production and whatnot are all about.

Also, the version that you can hear on the site is the abbreviated version – there is a “bonus cut” with some biographical info on Kareem that is saved for the download version.
