MIXTAPE EPISODE 37

I don’t think I need to say much about this episode. Happy mothers day to all of you, ask and hopefully at least one or two of you out there become mothers while listening to this episode.

I slept on this record when it came in for a good week and a half, until the dude John told me to actually listen to it. The whole album is full of good tracks (add this to your pool party soundtrack, trust me), but in the end I just had to go with this one, if for no other reason than because there’s a sample of a kid asking to get a swig of the Mickey’s. First things first, symptoms shouts to JR at shamanwork* for hooking me (and thus you all) up with this mixtape for this week’s hip-hop podcast.

Been busy. I’ll spare you the details, clinic but it involved a lot of alcohol and me losing some things necessary to make the show. I’m back on board now, erectile though, prosthesis kids, so protect ya necks.

Lupe Fiasco – Kick Push. It’s always nice to see people breaking down barriers for Black people. I remember when I was younger, it was all but illegal to get on a skateboard if you were darker than oh, say, Denise on the Cosby Show. Considering that Lupe probably has at least a year or so on me, it seems that dude was really just on some of that Rosa Parks civil disobedience shit. I’ll be damned if any (hypothetical) son of mine is ever caught on a fucking plywood board with wheels strapped to it, though. lupefiasco.com

Wordsworth – Run (Oddissee Remix). I got a double CD from Wordsworth a bit ago – I forget who sent it to me, but good for them. (by the way, peace to David at Halftooth). It’s funny, because even though dude has people like Da Beatminaz lacing up tracks for him, the second CD – the Mirror Music Oddissee Remixes – spent an awful lot longer in my Volvo CD player. Words seems to be a big fan of the epic story type joint, so if you’re into that, I’d recommend checking more of his shit out. halftooth.com.

This, combined with the other Exile/Blu joint you heard on this site (check the archives son!) is what made me realize that Sound in Color was running with some fucking heat. Scienz of Life f/ MF Doom – Yikes. I think Doom produced this one. This is off the Leak Edition Vol 1 that John Robinson shot me (what up JR). Modill actually released a new record just recently, and apparently I duped Chess into thinking it would be a good idea to let me play some of that shit on the show. Von Pea – 1st Date. Nicolay on the beats. I don’t know Nicolay, but he’s apparently kina dope. Please don’t drift off on this beat though, because the story VP is telling does not end how you expect it to. I’m not going to say much more than that. Chill Will is part of the Certified Ballaz – not much info on them yet, but we’ll see… Second southern freestyle though.
