MIXTAPE 86 – LORD QUAS + DJ TROUBL

MIXTAPE 86 – LORD QUAS + DJ TROUBL

Some of y’all might have caught this one. Some time ago, buy information pills a French DJ by the name of DJ Troubl put out a mixtape called A Journey Into Fresh Diggin: Quasimoto Meets Himself. Check that post for details.

Anyway, after that was posted, somebody quietly removed the mix from the server, prompting a bunch of emails asking me where the mix went, and where one could get it. I just recently came across a CD with that mix on it, so with it being Labor Day and all, I figured I’d throw a nice long joint up for people to listen to while they drink lemonade or whatever it is you do on Labor Day.

This joint is around 76 minutes long, so there’s plenty to get into here. Funk, soul, jazz loops, Quasimoto (who is, for the uninitiated, the alter ego of Madlib), and just good music. Check it. More info available at rappcatts.com.

Check after the jump for the full playlist and the full cover art in PDF form.

DJ TROUBL’ “A Journey Into Fresh Diggin:QUASIMOTO MEETS HIMSELF” PLAYLISTTTTT!!!

NB: this playlist is copied directly from a kinda spastic message board post Troubl made himself around a year ago, so things might get kinda interesting with spelling and track IDs.

1. Intro VAST AIR “Look mom no hands”
2. QUAS “Dinosaur Brain Beat” Original Sample (SCRATCH “Soulfly”) Not sure of this one??!
3. DJ DESIGN “Sparkdala”
4. QUAS “Microphone Mathematics Remix”
5. QUAS “Microphone Mathematics” Original sample (DON CHERRY “Complete Communion”)

The Official Crank Dat [Soulja|Barney|Folger|Army|etc] Boy Post

Okay, remedy so I’ve been going on a Soulja Boy binge. On the off chance that you are not up on the Crank Dat Movement (CDM), you will possibly remember Soulja Boy from his Mixtape Show debut right here on this very hip-hop podcast with I Got Me Some Bapes in Episode 62 and Crank Dat Soulja Boy in Episode 78 – both of them part of the Bounce Tape series (#4 probably coming soon).

Anyway, things are really getting ridiculous with this dude. I mean, come on.

That’s not lens flare, that’s whiteout.

On his glasses.

He put whiteout on his sunglasses. You know, on purpose. To simulate a reflection of snow, or something. I don’t really know. And yes, those are rubber bands. Anyway, somehow this kid has become the hottest thing on the internets, which I am not really mad at.

The music videos that these ridiculous-ass songs have inspired, however are really just next-level insane. Check after the jump to see what I’m talm bout.

Kanye Leaked, Dogs and Cats Lie Down Together

Kanye’s album has leaked. Oh dear God.

I KNOW ALREADY STOP BLOWING UP MY INBOX
Sorry that’s the best I could do with 5 minutes. That in the back is supposed to be a broken sprinkler, decease leaking out all of Kanye’s songs.

Thank you to each and every one of you that sent me frantic IMs, pills called me, texted me, etc. to break this important news. I truly appreciate it.

Hands up if you didn’t see this coming, seriously. I’m a little sad to take part in this Curtis v Graduation thing, but this will certainly make things a bit more interesting for the Sept 11th Showdown.

I am really busy playing Earthbound right now, but if I can find some spare time in the midst of being a little Japanese kid with a yellow backpack and hitting snakes with a bat, I might tell you whether or not it is worth buying.

As I may have mentioned to some of you, however, I think the true competition here is between Soulja Boy and 50 Cent. I would love to see the originator of the Crank Dat Movement (CDM) have a better first week than 50.

Remember, kids. Every time you crank dat soulja boy, an angel gets its wings.

MIXTAPE 85 – MAKING FRIENDS

MIXTAPE 85 – MAKING FRIENDS

This episode is all about making friends. If you don’t have any, dosage don’t worry! There’s nothing like coming together over a fresh Mixtape Show episode and enjoying the friendship that only rhyming about stabbings over hot beats can engender.

So when you listen to this out in public, this site make sure to follow along and make a new friend and help them enjoy the magic that is the Mixtape Show. Here’s the playlist.

Playlist

Talib Kweli – Country Cousins feat UGK. Again, glands it seems that I hear a new UGK cut and rush out to cut a new episode, just like for episode 66. I had really started to wonder about Talib, because his recent material has been a goddamn snoozefest. But he came correct on, well, a large portion of his latest effort. Be sure to check out Eardrum, it’s certainly worth a listen. I liked this one because I can relate to it – most of my extended family is actually back down south so it’s particulary enraging hearing people talk down on the south. myspace.com/talibkweli.

Hezekiah – Looking Up feat Bilal. Been quite some time since Hezekiah has been on the show, but it’s good to have him back. myspace.com/hezekiah3crateofporn okay dude what the fuck kind of myspace name is that.

Sin Sizzerb – Blood In My Eyes feat Opera Steve. If you’re wondering how this song fits into this mix, it doesn’t. But then again, it’s kinda appropriate, because Sin doesn’t really fit in among most rappers in your playlist. The historical, literary, and political references are just beyond most people. I mean, come on. The dude has a book club on his myspace. But if you’re willing to dissect the lyrics and spend some time on them, I think you’ll get a lot out of it. You’ve heard dude here before, by the way. myspace.com/sizzerbsin.

Peven Everett – Testin’ Me. Off an old Djinji Brown mixtape. I don’t know much about dude, but I am liking what I am hearing. myspace.com/studioconfession.

Jneiro Jarel – Doiniss! (feat Dr Who Dat?). I was totally sleeping when I skipped on this release when I passed on it because I didn’t like the way the cover looked. But to be fair, I’d gotten like three nerdrap records that looked suspiciously like it the week before. Still though – let me say this. If you’ve ever listened to a Dilla or Madlib record and found yourself enjoying either even in the slightest, you owe it to yourself to purchase a Jneiro record. By the way, his new Shape Of Broad Minds collabo release is also stellar. Buy that instead of meth this week. myspace.com/labelwho.

SleeStack’z – Ruination (Spearhead X Remix). Old ’96 style. I never did know much about these dudes (nor do I know what gives with the improperly used possessive marker – as a ‘z, no less) – but I do know that this has been a favorite of mine for a miiiinute. Crystal Clear is also dope – just buy their album, I guess. Back like three years ago I made a remix of Ruination, which I of course lost forever in a hard drive crash. It was good, though, trust me. Best nintendo remix ever. no myspace/site for these cats – help?

Beats:

Intro beat: Beewirks – Relentless. Like I said, I had to throw this on so you could hear it properly.
Interlude beat: Alkota – Feelings Ain’t Changed.
Outro beat: Alkota – Brand New Day. Good looking out on the beats, fam! Get at me with them new joints..

So that’s this week’s show. Did you take the Mixtape Show Challenge? How many friends did you make? How many people did you introduce to the racial-harmony-encouraging sounds of the interweb’s favorite hip-hop podcast?
