Okay, here we go with another exclusive review of the upcoming Busta Rhymes single, “Where’s Your Money“, featuring ODB. Has anyone noticed that hip-hop people, including myself, throw around the word “exclusive” like it’s nothing? That shit has no meaning anymore, and I’m happy to contribute to that. So fuck you.

So a lot of times, I hear about events and I wonder whether or not I should post about them. Not because I’m afraid of the repercussions or because I lack the talent to put together an amazingly well-written post, but because I worry about the relevance. See, I realize that this is a hip-hop blog / podcast joint here, and I’m trying to keep it relevant. Still though, there’s some things that your boy just gotta weigh in on.

For example, there’s the whole Utah rave thing, which I may still cover, but not today. Today, we’re going to talk about Katrina and the whole Finder vs. Looter debate. Let’s go.

Okay, so in case you all have been in your mom’s basement playing Mario Golf for the last two weeks, you’ll know that some sort of big-ass hurricane happened down souf. This caused a massive-ass flood in New Orleans.

Ooh, Flood street. That is sooo clever.

Man, I leave Southern Cali (and also the intarweb) for like five days, and everybody just goes fucking nuts on me. Sorry if this is late, but this would not be a proper hip-hop podcasting site if I did not weigh in on this too. Anyway, so the other day I got a call in the early morning telling me that Suge Knight had just been shot in a club.

This is not suprising.

Fortunately for fans of the Sugar Bear, he survived.

This is also not suprising, as Suge is a large man. They probably didn’t have enough bullets.

He was shot in the leg.

I don’t really find this suprising, as in my experience the only people that know how to aim those things right are either a) cops, b) redneck hicks, or c) psycho ex-girlfriends, the latter of which we will not get into at this time.

Additionally a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as suggested here, sounds pretty probable. I mean, who walks up to a table and shoots someone in the leg? Can’t you at least, you know, hit him in the face? The chest, maybe? I’m not suggesting that anyone should shoot Suge, but I’m having a hard time believing that someone would be stupid enough to, well, you know, leave him alive. If I even so much as sneezed on Suge Knight, I’d make for fucking damn sure that I had bubonic fucking plague, because that is not someone you want to have a grudge against you and still be breathing. I’m just saying.

Here’s where it gets weird, though.

Suge was shot at Kanye West’s party.

Yes, that Kanye West.

I find this extremely suprising, and also very disturbing.

Why? Well, to put it very plainly, getting shot at a Kanye West event is like getting stabbed at a Ani DiFranco concert. This shit absolutely does not compute.

Additionally, the prime suspect is a black male.

I find this somewhat suprising, given that it was a Kanye West party, but I suppose allowances can be made.

Further, said black male suspect was wearing a pink shirt.

I would find this suprising (and no, I don’t think it was Cam&Co), but given that this was a Kanyeezy jam, I find this totally within rational expectations.

I refuse to speculate any further on this. However, you best be sure that I am bringing my fucking vest to the next Lilith Fair. If Kanyizzle joints will get a brother shot, you know shit just ain’t safe no more.

I am henceforth considering the hip-hop (podcasting and otherwise) world to be on yellow alert until further notice. If someone gets shot at a Will Smith concert, we’re skipping amber and going straight to fucking red.

Talk to you again real soon now.

how do I listen to the show?

ayyo, what it do? you arrready know what it is, it’s your favorite hip-hop mixtape podcast on the internets, the mixtape show.

So yeah, this week’s theme is keeping it real, or if you prefer, keeping it fucking hood. Right now I’m in Berkeley, and I’ve been scrambling trying to handle this damn podcast shit.

Anyway, it’s episode 10, and believe it or not, even though I am out of the studio, have no CDJs or turntables, and have to record this on a $4 mic I stole from a kindergartener (sorry Bobby), I think it might be one of my favorites thus far. Check the tracklist…
