the mixtape show

It seems that the intarwebs were all abuzz with talk about the Super Tangent a while ago, and then all of a sudden they found some shiny new thing and started fawning over that. Whatever, though, even though I really really wanted the Top Tangent or EZ Tangent (they both have OLED screens so that you can actually see what the fuck you’re doing), I decided that since I need an mp3 player, what the hell.

I mean, it’s sort of sad that the host of the best mixtape / hip-hop podcast doesn’t even have an mp3 player. So you know, in the spirit of mixtapes, i.e. bootlegging, and given the fact that the Super Tangent is a bootleg iPod, I figured that the Super Tangent was the shit for me. So I copped one for like $75 on eBay, the 1 gigabyte version, which came with a “silicone skin” that was white, which upsets me because I wanted to be like Camron and get the pink one. Goddamnit.

That’s right. Madlib, aka Yesterday’s New Quintet, Jaylib, member of the Lootpack, Madvillain, and god damn this dude spends too much time making music. If you haven’t heard of this dude yet, you either need to check the liner notes on your CDs because odds are you might have something he produced, or you need to just wake the hell up.

For those of you in the latter category, don’t worry, I got you covered. I recently (okay, like two or three weeks ago) came across this unauthorized mixtape of some Madlib material, and, like everything I talk about on this site, ish is hot. Hip-hop, soul, funk, etc. Wait, rewiiind.

Some small updates on O.C. since people have asked -

Looks like the album, Smoke and Mirrors, finally has a street date - November 1st is the official word so far. The first single is going to be “Challenge Y’all” - I ain’t heard it yet, but I’ll probably have it on hand pretty soon. And depending on which way the wind is blowing, I might even let you all hear it. Stay tu

Damn, this took me a minute to get out.

I’m gonna keep the intro short to this one, considering that I’ve been writing mad articles on this ish lately. Basically I’d been thinking on doing an all-”conscious” mixtape for a minute now. There’s a lot of tracks I’d love to put on here, but I’m limited to what I can get permission for. Fortunately for you, every goddamn song I put out here is quality, and this episode is no exception - this one might actually kinda suprise you. The mixdown is dirty, but the songs is hot, no joke.
